CLIENT BRIEF

A cozy space to live till retirement. Hopes to have an island and sufficient kitchen space to accommodate an array of cooking gadgets. To incorporate personal landscape photography into the empty walls of the home.

This is a  comprehensive renovation project to transform a 50-year-old house into a forever home for a family with two growing children. Axel exudes warmth and comfort with wooden finishings, whitewashed walls and brown leather furniture, thus lending to a sense of timeless charm. This  cozy living space is thoughtfully furnished with a mix of the owner’s personal landscape photography and vintage finds. Each piece tells a story of their travel experiences.

As our client enjoys cooking and hosting wine sessions, it became imperative to reconfigure the spatial layout by removing walls that once confined the kitchen. This transformation not only unveiled a spacious and airy environment, it also allows for  a central island, serving as a focal point to the space and  providing ample kitchen space to accommodate a variety of cooking appliances. Within this reimagined space, distinct zones have been delineated: the result was a welcoming dry area for entertaining guests, and a dedicated wet area tailored to facilitate culinary endeavors.

A concealed pantry is designed, hidden away from the dining area, to seamlessly blend into its surroundings, offering both functionality and aesthetic appeal. At first glance, it appears to be part of the wooden wall panel behind the dining area, along with a concealed storeroom and guest bathroom on both sides. With a gentle push of each door panel, , the door panels open up to reveal either a hidden storage space, a pantry or a guest bathroom.

The TV console with its gracefully curved panels is a beloved centerpiece of the living space. Its elegant design not only captivates your gaze, it also serves as a blank canvas to  showcase our client’s landscape photography.

As our client loves to cook and host, the space was redesigned to accommodate his entertainment and cooking requirements, Axel's former kitchen was redesigned into a dry kitchen for entertaining and a wet kitchen for heavy cooking. The unused nook next to the dining area allows for the common bathroom to be extended, the remaining space was converted into a storeroom and pantry.
